General Information

AN EDUCATION TO ASSIST CHRISTIAN PARENTS

God places on parents the responsibility for the training and education of their children. When you choose our school to assist you in that awesome task, we function as a Biblical extension of your home. To accomplish this parents, teachers, and students must share a common commitment to the Bible and its truth as "The Guide" for life. This being necessary, we employ a Christian professional and support staff to instruct and serve as role models for our students. (Deut. 6:1-2, 7)

CURRICULUM

Our curriculum is traditional and diverse. We use A Beka textbooks as the core. Additional curricular material selection includes Christian and secular publishers. Language arts (listening, speaking, reading and writing) are integrated throughout the curriculum. In reading instruction we are committed to a phonics approach, vocabulary development, composition, and comprehension skills. Mathematics is traditional with focus on use of numbers, math skills, and computation. In all classes the teacher is key in integrating content with Christian life principles. Music, physical education, art, and computer resources are available. Bible is taught at every grade level. Chapel activities are scheduled throughout the year.

AFTER SCHOOL CARE

Care is available at school for students that have working parents or are not available when they get home from school. This program runs from 3:00 until 5:00 p.m. on all days that the school is in normal session and will end in June on the last Tuesday of the last week of school. The service will be provided by the N.S.C.S. faculty/staff. Appropriate school discipline will prevail. Activities will include supervised homework time, recess and a snack. A fee schedule is available upon request.

PRIVATE MUSIC LESSONS

In addition to the regular music classes, private lessons are available in piano, guitar and voice (at an additional cost) during school hours. Limited instruction is available after school for other instruments. It is our desire to see this provision grow as a service to our students. The cost is arranged through the school office and is payable on a weekly basis. Costs may vary with different types of instruction.

CHAPEL TIME

All students K - 8th attend Chapel on Friday mornings. The schedule is listed in the school calendar. Parents are invited to attend. Please turn your cell phones off during Chapel.

OUR TRADITION OF TRAINING

The tradition began under the leadership of Calvary Baptist Church.  The Church and members of the greater community were united in a vision for Christian education.  Because of this vision, NSCS opened as a Nursery school in 1972.  Through the years, grades were added.  For more than 35 years, God has sustained our ministry.

PASSING ON BIBLICAL
MORAL VALUES TO THE
NEXT GENERATION

North Shore Christian School is a ministry of the Calvary Baptist Church.  The mission of NSCS is to provide a Christ-centered education, training in Godly character and academic excellence.

“But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.”  Matt.6:33

“Thy Word have I hid in my heart, that I might not sin against Thee.”  Psalm 119:11

 SETTING STANDARDS OF
ACADEMIC AND SPIRITUAL LEADERSHIP
Teachers and Parents

Our teachers are authentic in their service of our Lord Jesus and in personal spiritual maturity.  Our teachers in K-8th grade have earned degrees.  We encourage our faculty to pursue professional certification through the Association of Christian Schools International (A.C.S.I), an international evangelical education association that accredits schools and certifies teachers.   Pre school staff have taken a certification course or earned degrees in early childhood education.

NSCS believes that education begins at home.  The school does not replace parents’ God given responsibility.  Parents and teachers work together to build a common basis for training in righteousness and a Biblical world view.  Bible truth can effectively be imparted to a child when home and school work together.

“A student is not above his teacher, but everyone who is fully trained will be like his teacher.” Luke 6:30

TRAINING IN ACADEMIC EXCELLENCE
Curriculum

NSCS has a long history of academic excellence.  Our curriculum is Christ-centered, challenging, and designed to help students gain essential tools for academic success.  Beginning with a phonics-based curriculum, we employ traditional and multi-sensory strategies for learning.  Literature and writing are used to build a strong foundation in reading and comprehension. Understanding math facts, science, developing computation skills and our relationship to the world are essential to academics and effectual living in our fallen world.

“Trust in the Lord with all thine heart, and lean not unto thine own understanding; in all thy ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct thy paths.”  Proverbs 3:5,6

DEVELOPING GODLY CHARACTER
Classroom and Athletics

Sound character is rooted in our relationship with God and is demonstrated in our relationship with man.  At NSCS every effort is made to develop the understanding that we are accountable to God for our actions toward our fellow man.  NSCS students are encouraged to receive Jesus Christ as their Savior and Lord.

Daily Bible instruction, prayer, and chapel services help direct a student to live a life in obedience to Jesus Christ and His Word.  Children learn to serve and pray for one another, to exhibit good sportsmanship, and to serve needs in their families and their communities.  Every effort is made to impart to the students a conviction to focus on others’ needs rather than on their own.

NSCS seeks to help children see the need to be “salt” and “light” in their daily lives.

“It is by his deeds that a lad distinguishes himself if his conduct is pure and right.” Proverbs 20:11  “Train up a child in the way he should go, even when he is old he will not depart from it.” Proverbs 22:6
